GLEIF LEI Lookup & Entity Resolver
The GLEIF LEI Lookup & Entity Resolver searches the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation's public LEI data.
It supports two useful research modes:
- Exact LEI lookup when you already know a 20-character Legal Entity Identifier.
- Legal-name search when you need candidate entities that can be resolved using jurisdiction, address, status and registration information.
What an LEI is
A Legal Entity Identifier is a globally unique identifier assigned to legal entities participating in financial and other official transactions.
An LEI record can provide structured fields such as:
- legal name;
- LEI;
- entity status;
- legal jurisdiction;
- legal address;
- registration status;
- registration/update dates.
Not every company has an LEI.
No result therefore does not prove that a company does not exist.
Strong workflow
Use the tool in this order:
- search the legal name or exact LEI;
- treat name results as candidates;
- compare jurisdiction and address;
- preserve the LEI when a candidate is resolved;
- corroborate material corporate facts against the relevant official registry.
The LEI is especially useful as a stable identifier when moving between datasets.
What it does not prove
An LEI record does not automatically establish:
- beneficial ownership;
- current operational control;
- sanctions status;
- commercial activity;
- every corporate relationship.
It is a strong legal-entity identifier and reference-data layer.
